In Search of Wild Bison
November 23 @ 12:00 pm - November 25 @ 11:00 am$50.00
We will be spending 3 days, 2 nights at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park in search of the elusive wild bison and wild horses. We will arrive Friday and begin our search while backpacking around the park. Once we arrive at a suitable location we will set up our camp. After setting up a camp and establishing a safety perimeter we will continue our search. On Saturday we will continue our search in different areas of the park.
Since we will be camping in the same area for 2 nights, we will establish a waterless restroom, a campfire circle, grills, a dining shelter with tables and a hand operated pitcher pump.
Admission to the park will be paid for by Hike It Florida.
Throughout this trip we will be hiking on back country trails which may be uneven and narrow in spots, as well as, staying in primitive campsites. The trails will pass through open prairie, pine, and oak forest, so sun protection is recommended. There is water at the camp, however, it will need to be filtered or chemically treated.
Each hiker is responsible for all of their own gear they would need throughout the trip. Check out our suggested gear list. Shared equipment is allowed if it is agreed upon beforehand. Additional details will be emailed as the backpacking trip gets closer. Due to the wildlife at this park, no pets are allowed.
