Cumberland Island Weekend

Located on the southeast coast of Georgia, Cumberland Island is home to expansive salt marshes, abundant wildlife, 300 year-old live oaks draped in Spanish moss, and 17 miles of protected beaches. We’ll book a ferry to the island and reserve your campsite at Sea Camp, located in a maritime forest next to the beach.
We’ll take care of all your meals so leave your cooking equipment at home; just bring your basic camping gear and weather appropriate clothing. New to camping? Awesome! Hike It Florida staff will be there to help. Explore 50 miles of trails – Enjoy meals cooked by Hike It Florida staff – Take a guided tour of the Dungeness Historic Area – Witness a breathtaking sunrise on a beach near your campsite – Spend the night roasting s’mores by the fire or stargazing on the beach!
Details of the trip:
- Meet at Ferry Dock at 10:45am (everyone must arrive one hour before ferry departure)
- Depart Ferry Dock 11:45am
- Arrive at Cumberland Island 12:30pm
- Set up Camp
- Pack Lunch / Explore Dungeness Historic Area. Approx. 4.5-mile hike
- Explore around camp / Dinner
- Watch Sunset
- Watch Sunrise
- Explore Northern end of island. Lunch on the trail. Approx. 14-mile hike
- Explore around camp
- Pack up Camp
- Depart from Cumberland Island 10:15am
- Arrive at Ferry Dock 11:00am
Each person is responsible for all of their own hiking and camping gear (no cooking gear) that will be needed throughout the trip. Carts are available on the island, so bring whatever gear you want. Check our suggested Hiking Gear and Camping Gear. If you are in need of gear, email us at HikeItFlorida@outlook.com and we will be able to assist you.
The campsites have restrooms, potable water and showers nearby. There is no electric at the campsites, but there is electric near the restrooms. We will have a lunch and dinner on Friday, three meals on Saturday and a cold breakfast on Sunday. More info regarding a menu will be addressed upon registration. This includes but is not limited to all liability claims and causes of action in any way connected to property owned or leased by Hike It Florida, or the actions or inactions of any Hike It Florida employees, members, agents, and or volunteers.
You personally assume all risks in connection with these activities. If you are signing on behalf of a minor, you further agree to HOLD HARMLESS AND INDEMNIFY Hike It Florida and its employees, members, agents, and or volunteers from all liability, claims and causes of action which the minor may have arising from the minor’s participation in activities. The terms of this agreement shall serve as a release and indemnity agreement for your heirs, personal representative, and for all members of your family, including any minors. (Parents or legal guardians must sign for all persons under eighteen (18) years of age.
