Myakka River State Park 3 Day Backpacking Trip
November 24, 2017 @ 10:00 am - November 26, 2017 @ 11:00 am$50.00
After you are finished celebrating everything that you are thankful for on Thanksgiving, join us for three-day backpacking trip.
We will be hosting a 3 day, 2 night backpacking trip in Florida’s very own Myakka River State Park. For this trip we will meet at 10am on Friday at a pavilion area to discuss the trip and go over gear. We will then travel by vehicle to the parking area at Powerline Rd and hike to Panther Point Campsite. Saturday morning after breakfast, we will continue our trip backpacking towards Honore Campsite for our second night. Sunday morning, we will leisurely wake up and make our way back to the our cars. This trip is great for all levels of backpacking skills. A pitcher pump is located near each camp, however, the water must be treated. Due to park rules pets are not permitted on this trail or in the camps.
Each night we will have the opportunity to look and listen at the marvelous sights and sounds of dusk in the woods! Birds returning home to roost, crickets and frogs croaking and chirping, mystery animals calling in the distance. While sitting around a campfire enjoying each others company.
Throughout this trip we will be hiking on back country trails which may be uneven and narrow in spots as well as staying in primitive campsites. The trails will pass through open prairie, pine and oak forest, sun protection is recommended.
Day 1: 9.3 Mile hike from Parking area to Panther Point Camp
Day 2: 4.4 Mile hike from Panther Point Camp to Honore Camp
Day 3: 5.2 Mile hike from Honore Camp to Parking area
See the trail map here.
Each hiker is responsible for all of their own gear they would need throughout the trip. Check out our suggested gear list. Shared equipment is allowed if it is agreed upon beforehand. Additional details will be emailed as the backpacking trip gets closer.
