Veterans Day Weekend Backpacking Trip at Jonathan Dickinson State Park

November 10, 2017 @ 9:00 am - November 12, 2017 @ 5:00 pm

Join us for a 3 day, 2 night backpacking trip in Jonathan Dickinson State Park.

The park is located just south of Stuart and teems with wildlife in 13 natural communities, including sand pine scrub, pine flat woods, mangroves, and river swamps. The Loxahatchee River, Florida’s first federally designated Wild and Scenic River, runs through the park.

We will begin our hike Friday morning and will be hiking approx. 9 miles the first day to camp. The second day we will wake up and hike approx. 4 miles to a new camp site. On Sunday we will leisurely wake up and hike out the remaining 5 miles. We will be meeting in the parking area at 10am to discuss the trip and go over any gear questions. We will then begin our trip. See the trail map here.

Throughout this trip we will be hiking on back country trails which may be uneven and narrow in spots as well as staying in primitive campsites. The trails will pass through open prairie, pine and oak forest, sun protection is recommended. This trip is great for a levels of backpacking skills.  A pitcher pump is located near each camp however the water must be treated. Due to park rules. pets are not permitted on this trail or in the camps.

Each hiker is responsible for all of their own gear they would need throughout the trip. Check out our suggested gear list. Shared equipment is allowed if it is agreed upon beforehand. Additional details will be emailed as the backpacking trip gets closer.
