Geocaching 101 Course

August 4, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Are you curious about what Geocaching is? Maybe your interested, but don’t know where to start? Looking for a fun way to get the kids outside and active? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this is the course for you!

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunt that uses GPS coordinates to help seekers find a hidden object. Geocaches are well-hidden and unseen from an unsuspecting person. There are millions of geocaches hidden in the most unsuspecting locations around the world! I’m sure you are within close proximity to many geocaches on a normal day and don’t even know it! Wouldn’t it be fun to join in on this activity?!

This Geocaching course is designed for those that enjoy the outdoors and wish to learn the ins-and-outs of this fun, outdoor treasure hunt. We will also go over the “Leave No Trace” way to geocache.

In this class you’ll learn:

  • The joys of geocaching.
  • The ‘tools of the trade’ and the proper ways of geocaching.
  • How to properly locate and identify different types of geocaches.
  • What to do once you find a hidden geocache.
  • The Principals of Leave No Trace (LNT) practices.
  • Safe geocaching practices and etiquette.

After the indoor portion of the course we will go out into the woods with all of the knowledge you learned to locate and even hide a geocache!

Since it is rainy season here in Florida please be sure to wear closed-toe shoes and bring an extra pair of shoes to change into once we’re done…it could be wet on the trail!
